Will someone else’s life be brighter tomorrow because of what you have done today? ~William Arthur Ward

Every Wednesday, we feature someone whose life and work reflect the theme of and inspiration behind this site. Today, we highlight Elizabeth, better known online as “Jett Superior,” and her inspirational postcard project she has undertaken with her best friend, Tessa.

If you could find a fun and creative way to brighten a random person’s day, would you do it? Jett and Tessa do. They create and mail postcards anonymously to random people for no reason other than to wish them a happy day. In fact, they enjoy it so much that they recently created the  Postcard Project, where Tessa set a random goal of 715 people to receive cards over the next several months.

Their inspiration behind the project was to connect with others, even in a small way. “Despite the fact the world grows smaller and smaller all the time via technology, a lot of people are very disconnected from one another and I see a basic sense of humanity slipping. People are more in need than ever of an encouraging word, a pleasant smile, a sense of gratitude for who they are and what they contribute to the world,” Jett said.

Jett and Tessa have undertaken all the costs for this project, including postage, and are finding many creative ways to make postcards, including repurposing the fronts of greeting cards, recycling cardboard and looking for stashes of unused vintage cards at yard sales.

Since the cards are sent anonymously, they have not received any direct feedback from anyone, but they have heard from address providers that the recipients were quite delighted by their cards and one man in particular said that the message on his card was exactly what he needed that day.

One of Jett’s favorite quotes for daily mindfulness is from the Talmud: “Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, ‘Grow, grow’.”

Don’t you want to help this project grow? Open up that address book and send them some addresses at jettsuperior [at] gmail.com with the subject line “Postcard Project.” It’s easy and costs nothing. Help spread the love!
